Ornate Victorian Cast Iron Plant Display Stand - Wall Mounted

NZ$1,850.00

Plant stands were the perfect tool to combine a love of nature with a taste of ornament and decoration in the Victorian era.  The cultivation of plants was a widely popular pastime for the Victorians in all levels of society, and their toils were proudly displayed in homes and gardens.  Plant stands became an essential item for the exhibit and storage of flowers and foliage, providing a link between domestic interior and the natural work that had gone missing due to the Industrial Revolution.

This ornate Victorian plant display stand is an exquisite example.  It's been beautifully cast depicting ferns, grape bunches and beautiful scroll work.
There are three display plates for potted plants or large candles.
Originally there would have three legs.  The middle leg is missing (Photo 4). We have had an engineer attach a steel plate to the back side to enable this beautiful piece to be mounted on a wall if required. Alternatively you can have it leaning against a wall.  It sits 100mm away from the wall. Alternatively you can have it propped against a wall. It is very heavy.

A gorgeously aged patina. A historical work of art.

Rare.
