Plantae et Papiliones Rariores a Georg Dionysius Ehret 1748
Two gorgeous framed botanical reproductions of rare plants and butterflies.
The original eighteen plates were engraved and hand coloured by German artist Ehret himself. Georg Ehret (1708-1770) is one of the most influential botanical artists of all time due to his development of the Linnaean style of botanical illustration. The detailing and colours are stunning. They were published in parts from 1748 until 1759.
These reproductions all have their certificates of authentication and are numbered two hundred and twelve of a limited edition of five thousand. It is also noted that they are the most faithful reproduction of the originals housed in the Chatsworth library, Chatsworth House in Derbyshire.
The frames are a gorgeous gold gilt, beautifully made and in overall excellent condition.
A beautiful set that are a rare find.
